This data is available on our website. Just click on "The U-boats" in the navigation at the top of the page, then on "U-boat Patrols" on the left side. Here you can enter a date and it shows you a list of all U-boats at sea on the date entered. Scroll to the bottom of this listing and you will find an interactive map that shows the known or plotted positions of all U-boats on that day.

On 1 July 1942 there were 79 U-boats at sea, but only 5 of them were still operating off the US East coast (U-89, U-202, U-332, U-584 and U-701). By this time the BdU had already begun to target other areas, sending his U-boats mainly to the Caribbean, into the Gulf of Mexico and the first one into the St. Lawrence.
