Hi Martin

The source for this information was "British and Commonwealth Merchant Ship Losses to Axis Submarines 1939-1945" written by Alan J. Tennent.

I did some additional research on this case and can confirm that the men taken prisoner from LUIMNEACH were not captured by U-46, but ended up in France after being landed there by a French fishing boat. I've updated our page about the loss of this ship accordingly and also added the names of all 18 crew members.

The name of the Maltese sailor was Nazareno Bartolo according to the Central Register of Seamen of the Board of Trade. It appears "Bartello" is a spelling error in the catalogue description of his POW records, that also lists his ship as "Luminach" instead of "Luimneach".

Best regards
Rainer
