BdU, being unaware of the possible loss of U122 since her last radio message (June 21, 0035, grid AM51), had issued orders to U122 where to operate.
Based on U122's position on the 21st at 0035 and the orders issued to the uboat, BdU "EXPECTED" that on 27 June U122 had reached the latitude of Finisterre.
The same day he issued further orders for U122 to concentrate her operations on CF30 (because U101 had on return to base had reported steamer traffic in CF32).
BdU continuously estimated the positions of his boats at sea and that was imho the source for his entry into his KTB.
