Hi danmac, I can say with near certainty that the attack on a lighthouse did not take place. 1st I have translated almost all of the KTBs for boats that operated off the Canadian coast and there is no such attack mentioned. 2nd U-boats did not attack navigation aids because they found then useful for their own navigation. 3rd Attacks on targets ashore would not have been done without specific authorization. 4th An attack on a shore target (which was done by U-boats against Russian installations in the Arctic) would have been over in minutes not several hours particularly in 1943 when aircraft posed a deadly threat. If you have any Canadian WWII records that mention this attack or can determine a date please let me know. Jerry
