<HTML>Ships alongside have a number of lines securing them - fore and aft and springs. As U-boats were not really large both in terms of length and tonnage I dont know the exact configuration of the lines.
Anchors are normally used for holding a ship to the ground when away from the shore BUT when alongside an anchor cable is often payed out for inspection or painting.
So, have the anchor cable out but do part if it in fresh paint (that more inboard) and the other rust streaked.
When its completed how about letting some of us see photos ?
