Hi Jonathon, interesting topic, I notice all were launched between December 1940 and March 1941, but also that they were all built at different yards, U203 Germania Werft, Kiel : U331 Nordsee Werke, Emden : U351 Flensburger Schiff, Flensburg : U401 Danziger Werft, Danzig : U431 F. Schichau Gmbau, Danzig : U651 Howalds Werke, Hamburg and U83 Flender Werft, Lubeck. This may suggest trials in design capabilities, building times, and may be if one less tube didn't compromise operational capabilities, which seeing as they were all a one off build revealed that one more tube carried increased the boats offensive effectiveness during attacks. Just a thought. Regards John
