Hi Walter,

Thanks ever so much for your information. Sorry it's taken me so long to reply but I was away on holiday with no access to a PC. My dad was in 458 Squadron, but was not in the crew of Markey (who lost his life a few days later).

I imagine my father was sent to the Denia area because of the earlier encounter between Markey and the u-boat. I wonder if the "explosions" you mention could have been the flares dropped by my dad's Wellington. They would not have made a sound like an explosion but I would expect they'd make quite a loud noise (from the point of view of a submariner) when hitting the water from a height. That is just my own speculation, of course. Also - I wonder how accurate the KTB position records were? I am not an expert in such matters.
