Hi Walter, only other source of this is from 'Axis Submarine successes' by J. Rohwer, quote [1] U553 fired two spreads of torpedoes and one stern torpedo. Only the Empire Bede was hit by one torpedo, she was later sunk by HMS Pimpernel. [2] U553 observed from a spread of four torpedoes fired at 0913 after 56 sec, 1 min 3sec and 1 min 6 sec. It is probable that two torpedoes hit the Blankaholm and one hit the John Hancock. Regards John
