U-482

I'm trying to find information about the attacks on U-482 on Sept. 1 and Sept. 2 1944 off the coast of Ireland, less than 50 miles from Londonderry.

U-482, which was on its first war patrol, sank four merchantmen and the RN corvette Hurst Castle. It was hunted by a strike force of 30 Allied warships but got away after enduring prolonged depth charge attacks.

Robert Irwin, the wireless operator on HMCS Prince Rupert, said in an interview a number of years ago that his ship was part of a strike force that attacked a sub off the coast (Prince Rupert was at Londonderry on Sept. 1, 1944). Unfortunately, he does not give a date. But he does say Prince Rupert dropped depth charges on a suspected sub and that oil came to the surface. He adds Prince Rupert rescued some men from a British corvette but again he doesn't name the ship. It sounds from his interview that the Prince Rupert only picked up a few British sailors, most or all of whom died on the Prince Rupert's deck.

He says the Prince Rupert was called out to join a strike force looking for a sub that was sinking ships off the coast and that during the hunt a British corvette was lost.
This sounds very much like U-482 but, again, I don't have a date.
Does anyone know which ships made up the strike force that attacked U-482 in early September 1944?
Thanks
Dan McCaffery
