hi, Ken,

Lott might have been senior to Franz in some way, perhaps higher in the Rangliste which I don’t have.

Yes, he was, Lott was -11-, Franz was -42-, both promoted Lt.z.S. 1.10.30, but in 1932 Lott was already Oblt.z.S.(1.10.32), Franz still Lt.z.S.

The previous statement that of 21 officers on November 21 the most were submariners is somewhat questionable as U 35 was sunk afterwards, thus there could only, according to Fernando's info, 8 submariners be at Grizedale.

greetings, Urs
