I agree, both ways to direct fire seem to be possible for the IIWO

BÜ is an acronym for Befehlsübermittlung, i.e. command & control telephone

I`m sure you have seen pictures of soldiers wearing a "head set" phone to listen and to talk into the mouthpiece
