U-190 shore bombardment of 25 Jul 1943?

Greetings all. I just read a short article regarding the "potential" shore bombardment of the Ethyl-Dow Kure Beach Chemical Plant in coastal North Carolina, US. The article mentioned that historians do not agree on whether the attack actually took place. The U-190 survived the war, so I would imagine that the logs would have mentioned this attack. Can any of the experts/enthusiasts here shed some more detail on this possible event?
