Hi U103 in her sinking list, is now credited with sinking this ship on 26.09.1941. Back on 05.09.2009 the attack on convoy HG73 of which Lapwing was sailing in was discussed in detail and her sinking then attributed to U124. As I understand U124, U201 and U203 were engaged against HG73 in Grid BE41 on the 26th, while U103, with U107 and U125 were from September 22nd, for three days deployed against convoy SL87 in Grid DG99. U103 had two successes late on the 22nd and following the action along with the other two boats were ordered south to operate off Freetown.
If this is correct why did she then go northwards to where convoy HG73 was sailing?. Plus on the map of her 5th patrol it shows where Lapwing was sunk being nowhere near the course U103 sailed on during her patrol. John
