<HTML> My Grandfather was in the German navy between about 1908 and 1910. He spent some time in Kiel. The family rumor has it that he was in the submarines or possibly on torpedo boats. I have a picture of him taken in Kiel in 1910, on his hat it say\'s Torpedo Division. then what looks like a capitol I. and then a small i.
I know this is a long shot but can anyone help identify that hat?? (the picture is just from the chest up) Does anyone know where I can obtain information about the German navy before WW1. How long were enlistments etc.
