What I find a bit surprising is Brandscheid\'s apparent career path. The (ing) indicates that he was an engineering officer. Any chance he served as the engineering officer on the U54 and U118? Both had an allotment of four officers, which would presumably be the CO, two WO, and an engineering officer.
I\'ll look up more details on U54 and U118 tonight (the former was a standard mittle U fleet boat while the latter was a UEII minelayer). Both boats survived the war.
