<HTML>I think that the plane used is an AT6 \"Texan\" or sometimes known also as the Harvard. They were used by the Americans and others as trainers and never as combat aircraft. I imagine the budget ran short and these trainers are semi-available in terms of surviving numbers and relatively economical to operate by warbird standards.
B.T.W. the Corsair did not make it\'s combat debut until the spring of \'43, the Hellcat until August of \'43.
The only American combat plane that it might possibly be would be the Dauntless dive-bomber but I don\'t know whether or not any were given to the British.
When the story takes place is November of \'41 before Pearl Harbor was bombed.</HTML>
