just a little joke. To tell truth i would have thought it a complete cop-out for it to end any other way. As Meg says, it's art, not life, and just as poor old Ahab had to come a cropper at the end of Melville's novel, it was the only conclusion that made a satisfactorily tragedic ending.

but i love those characters and it still hurts everytime i see it......

if hollywood ever did a remake i suspect i wouldn't give a @!#$ what happened to any of 'em.....:-)
