I too, thought the "U-Boat" looked very American. But I never knew for certain. Thanks for the info.

If my sources are correct, I beleive the US sub Tilefish (SS-307) began life as a Baleo class sub and was post war modified to a Guppy III class conversion prior to being sold to Venezuela. The sub in the movie has been stripped of its three sonar domes and a cigarette deck was added for purposes of the movie.
