<HTML>I suspect I'm a little late to the party here but my favourite scene in Das Boot is the shot of her heading out to sea in the glorious sunshine. To me thats the romantic notion of putting out to sea in all it's glory. It's manys a time I've dreamed of standing on the bridge of my own sub, heading out on patrol and god only knows what strife.Of course it provides the stark contrast for when the fun begins; Atlantic storms, boredom, depth charges,no convoys....I suppose if I was a sub commander I'd only want to hang around for the first hour.I think that the scene probably demonstrates the allure that signing up for the Navy must have had to young German men at the time.It also ties in well with the pride displayed when Werner,The chief and The Old Man set eyes on her for the first time and the heartbreak of losing the boat after the patrol. Not much happens in that scene but I think it's quite poignant nonetheless.
