<HTML>Now that I have the ear of a Canadian I thinks it's worth mentioning that the Canadian armed forces pulled off some very good performances against U-Boats during the war. This particular book I felt was doing it's damndest to completely denegrate their reputation. Some of the Canadian convoy escort groups enjoyed kill rates some of the supposedly better equipped American groups could only dream of.The fact that they faltered initially is irrelevant as all the Allied navies were green when it came to ASW.The British admitted after the war that the lessons learned from 1914-1918 were forgotten and the Royal Navy was also forced to learn as it went along. It has to be said that the Canadians conducted their operations almost bereft of the swagger the Americans displayed. While the Americans played an important part in the war they were not the only participants, nor were they the only victors.Perhaps I may lean a little more towards favouring the Royal Navy as both my great great grandfather and my great grandfather served in the RN during World War 1, but as an oft ignored facet of the U-boat war Canadas participation certainly deserves recognition and respect.</HTML>
