I remember a movie in which a British sub Captain is given the mission of finding and destroying the prototype German nuclear powered Uboat NP1. The film was set off the coast of Africa, I think the Namibian or Skeleton coast.
The desctruction of the UBoat needed to kept secret in order to convince the Kreigsmarine that the boat was lost to a failure of the power plant and so further development was risky or useless.
To ensure the secret was kept the British Captain machinegunned all the survivors who were on the beach when he torpedoed the Uboat. But he missed one.
Interesting twist to the story, no? Anyone know the name of the film?
