It was indeed U-96. I really don't know why it doesn't show up--is that the right Flotilla? I'm not terribly knowledgeable about those details, obviously.
I was so moved by the end of the movie, and then the book, which I read afterwards, that when I learned that Buchheim had fictionalized U-96's return to port in December 1941 and all those men weren't bombed to death, I danced around the house cheering! Of course, some incoming U-Boots DID meet that horribly ironic fate; Buchheim wasn't making the story up out of thin air.
As far as I know, there's no way to go back and change something you've posted, as I know to my great sorrow, having occasionally written something in anger which I regretted the very second it was sent.
