Wow, a great question! If you want to get the real feel for Das Boot you must read the following.

Sharks and Little Fishes by Wolfgang Ott copy right 1957 by Pantheon Books, Inc. and when you get through it get a copy of
U-BOAT WAR by Lothar-Gunther Buchheim from Bantan Books

Movies are a vision of history, the written word is a memory of history, the photograph is history in focus.

I own about 200 books on submarines - I served in Canadian Submarines and I love submarines.

If you wish to ask more about this movie please do, I can spend hours on it and other boats.

Oh, and do not forget to read about the 52 lost boats in the Pacific War (U.S.) course.
