Hi Dave,

Anything shown on “regular” (free) TV in the U.S. is full of commercials. An hour-long show would normally have somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes of commercials. Actually it seems like 20 or 30 minutes of commercials sometimes but I think the time allowed for them is regulated. If you actually get 50 minutes of the show itself you are pretty lucky. Cable or satellite TV which you pay for may or may not be commercial free. I don’t know about other countries though but this might explain some or even all of the time difference. Perhaps extensive flash backs at the beginning and previews of the next episode at the end are used to fill the time we have to suffer through the commercials in countries that are more fortunate. We sometimes have them too but they are generally just a few seconds long.
