Hi,

Thanks for all the responses. When I went to Birkenhead and visited the U-boat there the guide showed us the pipe which distributed the air. It had been completely crushed at one end of the submarine due to the pressure when it was sinking. Fortunately everyone made it out of the boat but two or three men nearly didn't. Apparently due to the pressure their eyes got squashed and they now suffer from tunnel vision. I suppose this must have been because of the water entering the U-boat where the depth charge hit.
