I agree with you! But I wonder why movie-makers can't get it through their heads that if they portray characters and actions truthfully, concentrating on their humanity as well as on the harrowing experiences they're having, instead of trying to see how many things they can blow up, they will make good movies which audiences enjoy and appreciate. Sure, there are lots of explosions in Das Boot (thank you, "Charlie Boom-Boom"!) and the scenes with the destroyers are exciting, but we CARE about those guys on the boat and that's what makes it a great movie. The fact that it's basically a true story (except for the ending) almost doesn't matter. It has inner truth, and even if it were pure fiction, it would be a great movie.
