Hello Herr Kummrow,
LGB couldn't do as you suggest, because Dr Frank had beaten him to it by about 25 years with the publication of his hugely successful Die Wölfe und der Admiral, where he gave a very vivid account of the whole Bergen scene. Anyway, LGB did only a short stint there, apparently. But, as stated before, Die Festung shouldn't be about U-boats, it should be about June 1944 in the Bretagne, Paris and Alsace. Almost completely earthbound, but interesting all the same. And as LGB is careful with his money, like most Germans, getting the rights off him will definitely cost any publisher an arm and a leg.
