OK, I'll bite: what's untrue about "Chariots of Fire"? Did Eric Liddell not refuse to run on a Sunday? If so, well, the rest of his life (I've read a couple of biographies) was certainly consonant with his character as portrayed in the film. He died of a brain tumor while a POW in occupied China, where he continued to work as a minister and as an organizer of Boy Scout and Girl Guide groups among the POW children.

This very interesting thread started because I was giving a Referat (oral report; yes, I'm an aging German major) on the Grimm brothers, and wanted to start out with a couple of urban legends regarding these gentlemen--to wit, that they "wrote" the Kinder-und Haus Märchen, and that we get our English word "grim" from their surname. Since, as a typical student, I didn't ask the question until it was too late to utilize the answers, I led into my Referat with something like "Many people 'know' that the Brothers Grimm . . ." (auf Deutsch, natürlich.)
