Eric, I am not sure that the "wooden" performances were as much a result of bad acting or talent as they were a by product of what Hollywood thought the public wanted to or should see. One dimensional heroism was heavily ladled on to the mix with usually scant attention paid to the grittier and soul wrenching parts of war. Many of the wooden war movie performers did very well in other roles. Take Arnold, for example.... maybe that was a bad example.....maybe I am just teasing Meg.
