How does a real sailor look or act?
For inspection, I used to emulate a WWII career first class petty officer, who dressed like a boot for inspection. Spit shinned shoes, brass shined to a mirror finish and an oversized perfectly round white hat that hung on his ears. Also a regulation rolled necktie with a knot that exactly paralleled the V in his jumper per requirement. And for him, his numerous medals.

Others showed up in their tailor mades, double rolled neckties and perfectly squared white hats. They looked ready for a poster photo

On the ramp some were as graceful as a ballet dancer while other were clumsy.

In dungarees some were sleek while others looked like children in oversize blue jeans.
