Submerged; The rescue of the USS Squalus in 1939. (2001)

Starring James B. Sikking, Sam Neill and Emily Procter

It’s great submarine film but it starts with a terrible flaw! In the departure scene a woman expresses her worries about the war. Will it spread to the US? And she has heard so much about the German U-boats.

Wait! This is May 1939! Which war? And the German U-boat fleet in that time was a handful of small “ducks” and a growing number of Type VII. Furthermore the build up was mainly made in secrecy and definitely not known to the American public.
