Movies and Films
This is the forum for Movie and Film discussions. Again, our topic is naval warfare in WWII for the most part.

Hello Meg,
The movie, while technically and historically inaccurate, it is a fun movie to watch. I would add that some of the scenes above the water, on the USN ASW ship, are also inaccurate.
It is however a fine example of the genre of films in which the enemy is caught and vanquished in the end, by the dedicated citizen soldier. Heine, not unlike the XO in Red October, does not get to go to Montana, nor will there be any buckaroos.
John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Cliff Roberts, and a host of other Hollywood stars were cast in films like this one, and their purpose was not historical accuracy, but rather propaganda. And they continued from WWII to Korea, to Vietnam, and on to the Gulf.
I made a similar comment to the thread on Das Boot, and while I decry the lack of accuracy, it is what it is.
I love "Valdez is Coming" because the firearms are period, as I like Tom Selleck in Australia, perhaps the most amazing collection of old firearms, even a Colt revolving rifle!
Enjoyed the perspectives, peace
