Das Boot and Merten's book

Being a great Das Boot fan, I was interested to note in the Books section of this excellent website that Karl-Friedrich Merten and Kurt Baberg wrote a German book, published in 1986, in which they criticised Buchheim's Das Boot. The book's title is "Wir U-Bootfahrer sagen: 'Nein! So war das nicht!'" (In English: "We U-boat men say: 'No, it wasn't like that!'") Has anyone in this forum read the Merten-Baberg book and if so, what are its main points? Is it a worthwhile book? Though Buchheim's book and the movie are striking, is it a true reflection of "how it really was"?
