This is the forum for Movie and Film discussions. Again, our topic is naval warfare in WWII for the most part.

Someone told me recently that submariner has been Britishized at the USNA now, which seems to go along with a general tendency to "snootify" the pronunciation of various things. Watch "Smallville" sometime and note how they pronounced Lana Lang's name. The first syllable always used to be the same as LAN (Local Area Network), but they're using "Lahn," which might fly in Canada, but probably cracks them up in Kansas.
Oh, heck, the USN had torpedoes with sharp pointed warheads. But it's true you probably didn't see the Mark 2 employed very much in the 1940s.
Goofs are fun, really. I always enjoy Don Rickles happily working a pickle switch to raise and lower the hydraulic periscope hoist in Run Silent, Run Deep. Or "Fire One!" (When did tube one move to the center door on the port side?)
You are an outstanding nitpicker. Certainly that quality has helped to keep me from looking too dumb to those perceptive and generally classy folk who actually spend money on my books.
