if I remember correctly as to “Schepke, Kretschmer and Kelsch” Lt. Werner says, alle abgesoffen außer Kretchmer = all lost except Kretschmer and he said at the beginning of this sermon to the ALTE something like “viele von den Assen gibt es nicht mehr, Schepke, Kretschmer and Kelsch; alle abgesoffen, außer Kretchmer”.

As to Endrass when I talked with my godfather about this quote of LGB, be that from the book or the movie, he told me that he believed Endrass to be maybe a little bit more sensitive than f.e. he himself but that Endrass was always in good spirit when going on the next patrol. Please check insofar as to TOPP’s spontaneous “orbituary” to Endrass when told his dear friend wouldn’t return from the sea as quoted at the beginning of “Silent Hunter”.
