Hi Daniel,
The U-Boat in question is U-497, which, as you will see in this website, was never commissioned. I think, personnaly, that this was a great U-Boat to choose for the film as it is purely fictitious. The U-Boat first appears in the film at 1hr 16mins 32secs and the U-Boat identification is at 1hr 17mins 30secs.
