U-571 Inignia Question

hello all, after watching the movie U-571, I've tried doing some research about the insignia shown on U-571, its a trident connected at the bottom with a lightning bolt. from all the research I've done i haven't found one shred of evidence proving that it was an actual insignia used on ANY u-boat, and it was clearly not used on the real U-571. so I'm just curious if anyone knows if it was a real insignia or something entirely fictional made up for the film.
