das boot accurate

this is from the horses mouth ...today I met a wonderful gentleman named Wolfgang who was the first officer on the U-1165 which saw service between 1944 and 45 ..the crew survived the war and the boat was scuttled after the war ..he actual photographs of the boat and crew....I had a great discussion with him this afternoon and was it ever interesting actually talking to one of the few remaining u-boat sailors alive today..he is 92 and still drives!... in our conversation I asked him how accurate Das Boot was? ..he said yes that movie was very much exactly what it was like serving on a u-boat in world war 2 so there you have it ...take care
