Hi, it depends, what you mean as a maximum depth. Let's say it is 250 m. In the later years of war, the usage of the upper deck containers was abandoned, because (due to allied air supremacy) there was no opportunity to transfer the torpedoes from the upper deck into the hull. I forgot about one small issue. The diesel engine while working, needs cooling and lubricating. When engine is running, the cooling water and lubricating oil is forced to circulate by means of the pumps attached to engine and driven from the crankshaft. Well, it looks like the Cameronia was damaged by torpedo dropped by Ju-88. It means, that the torpedo was F5b or (less likely) F5w type. It would be good to know the original label (it is unlikely, that on German torpedo was a "detonator ring" label). I have reviewed the documentation of both German aircraft torpedoes, and did not found anything similar to the part from the photo.
