Hi Jakob, In U 47's KTBs, it can be seen that the only French port the boat sailed from or to was Lorient. This was the boat's operational base from September 1940 onwards. But the port from which the boat sailed was not necessarily the same location as the 7th's administrative base. The 7th U-Flottille's administrative home was at Kiel and then St. Nazaire. The process

Hi, The photo is of U 47 returning to Germany from the famous Scapa Flow mission in which HMS Royal Oak was sunk. The date of the photo is 17th October 1939 and the location Wilhelmshaven. There were many photos taken of U 47 after the Scapa raid, and this is a nice example of such a photo. Cheers, Dougie
