indeed Lauterbach commanded in the Baltic Sea the auxiliairy vessel K = Kronprinz Wilhelm and attacked on may 27, 1916 two russion submarines the BARS and the GEPARD. BARS had no dammage while the two guns of the GEPARD were dammaged during the ramming. as the diary (KT disappeared with the boat, the operation department of the supreme commander of of the submarines wrote a diary which was constructed following all the informations they got before the boat was sunk.This happened mainly by radio contact (FT). In the reconstructed KTB of U-182 you can find a FT of U-182 saying that he sunk the Aloe and that the "Kapitän ist hier" which means that MacLennan was well on bord of U-182 and perished with her. Furthermore we found in Australia the daughter of a crew member of the Aloe. Her father told that Niko Clausen gave a very fine treatment to the crewmembers providing food and other means in

moreover both are still in the LLoyd's register of 1916-1917. so they were surely not sunk in 1914

this looks already better. I could not find any information in all german documents concerning Tsingtau that there was any ship hit by the mines of the Lauding. The only one mentioned is the Lauding herself, hit by an english mine.

just some more information concerning the Lauting. she was raised and repaired by the japanese and served as salvage tug under different names : Shirogame, Sanogawa Maru, Sanogawa Maru and Hakuun Maru until May 30, 1945 when she sunk definitely by mine at Kataka Kaiyo Maru was build by Kawasaki Dockyard, Kobe the Nagato Maru's by Osaka Iron Works, Osaka

Michelsen gives 5132 losses and compared them to 5467 serving on boats in september 1918. stating that by this numbers nearly 50% were lost. Herzog indicates 4744 losses

she has not been sunk by UB63 but took as prize on november 3, 1917. the earlier dates are not possible because UB63 has been commissioned only on july 23, 1917

yes I know Mike ,Ifound it there too. What I meant is that I could not find any other information, neither in the KTB's ofthe boats, nor in those of the flottillas or of the U-boat inspection that Friedrich Dönitz was commanding a U-boat.the only possibility I see is that perhaps he commanded UC52 during its transfer to GB after the end of the war.

Sass was well the commander of UC52 from september 16,1918 until november 30,1918. I couldn't find anything about Friedrich Dönitz that shows that he commanded a submarine

Studt took over the command on June 1,1918 first in acting for Eckelmann and defintely beginning August 9,1918 until the surrender on november 14, 1918
