Hi, It may depend on when the aircraft was sighted. Allied aircraft would need some 40-50 seconds for the bomb run. Meanwhile, a Typ VIIc with Wintergarden could take 30-40 seconds to dive. The ass end of an unprotected submerging u-boat presented a good target. One scenario where a u-boat might not want to dive would be just after surfacing for recharge of batteries. Hope this helps,

Hi, In Kohl and Rossler's "Anatomy of the Ship, the Type XXI Uboat" they identify the two in the first picture as U2547 and U3502. Just my 2 cents. Rand
