The red arrows points to the control arm that locks the schnorchel into position by a large locking pin into the schnorchel restrain bracket. The control arm extent from the Control Room, through the pressure hull, up the conning tower to the schnorchel restrain bracket. You will not found it on U-995 in it current configuration, as it this missing. Simon

Hi Stu Here a link to my research on the Schnorchel system. The research is ongoing, and I still have lot of drawings that I want to add to this document when I can. From my research the “protruding from the sides of the hull” is the piping for the air inlet for the schnorchel. It can be seen as it exits the schnorchel hinge arrangement, a section of curve pipe extending pass the side w

Hi Stu Hi Stu It funny that you are modelling U-1305 as I have been working on U-1308 for the last few years now I know that you are talking about now. I have just finishing up my research on the Schnorchel, I should had my research written by the end of the week. Can you wait the long? It should example all U-1308 started life as a 1:60 scale, then I want more detail so I change it

Does anyone have Vom Original zum Modell, Uboottyp IXC or the Construction designs plans for the Type IXC? I have a very poor quality scan of Plan 7 and I can not read the measurements from ‘Schnitt - B’ Blue I was hoping someone who has this book/plan could either rescan this part of the plan for me or tell me the measurements. Also I am after a better quality scan of ‘Schnitt - Dâ

Using measurements from the conning tower casing from a Type XXI (3540 x 2160 mm) I was able to scale down to a Type VIIC conning tower casing length of 2950 mm and got a width of 1845mm. Can confirm this? When I compare this with what I previous estimated, it was only out by 5 mm (2950 x 1850 mm), if my figures are correct it look like the Type XXI conning tower casing is a scale up version o

Does anyone know the dimensions of the pressure hull for the conning tower for a Type VII’s? I have 2950 mm for its length and I am after its width. Thanks, Simon

Below is a cross-section of the exhaust outlet valves from the diesel motor. The yellow circle is the trunk line however, there look to be an outer shell around the trunk line (red) and a space between them. Does anyone know if they water cool the hot exhaust gases before venting them out from the boat ???

It one of my goals this summer to work out these ‘bumps’ are for! Did you see my research I did for the saddle tank hatches?

Hi Åkerberg My feeling are that these ‘bumps’ not for the speedometer. Below are the reasons why I believe not. On page 32 of the Type VII C Manual from U-boat Archive, it refers to only 2 pressure hull openings for the Speed indicator. Why would you need 4 openings in the casting (as there 4 ‘bump’ on the bow)? In addition, it refers to 4 openings in the pressure hull for the dept

Hi Åkerberg Hope you had a great summer! Just finish another winter in NZ and started to get in to my U-Boat research again. I see you answering one of the big mystery question “What are those bump?” :-D I was hoping to find an answer to that is summer myself. I have only started collecting data and researching this area of the boat, but there a great picture of them without there covers

Below are 3 different outlines of the bows for the Type VIIC’s. They are: Red line – The original Type VIIC bow without the Atlantic bow. Green line – A Type VIIC with a modify Atlantic bow. You can see the additional 180 mm in height and 280 mm in length. The outline returns back to the original deck line at Frame 104. Purple line – I have always consider that the deck line for the

I am working on this area again I am currently correcting and adding more detail to the stern section. I found this picture below (from U-995 by E. Wetzel) you can see a dockworker install piping to the stern. Are these pipes the high pressure air lines to the driving tanks? Or were the high pressure air lines a flexible or hard piping? As I though the high pressure air lines would be hard pi

After doing a little more research on why the move the aft battery hatch. They move it for the 3.7cm FlaK or quadruple 2cm L38/43 U Flak gun support for the lower Wintergraten. I would believe is would be for all Type VIIC/41 or any other Type VIIC that had a lower Wintergraten with these big guns on.
