Hi guys, anyone knows what was the procedure after the enemy aircraft was sighted? I mean the U-boat was diving to periscope depth or deeper? Where I can find any information on that?! All the best, Andrzej

In fact there was Norwegian B-1 which in 1940 escaped to UK but had nothing to do with the sub which was transferred to Soviet Navy. BTW. In Russian alphabet letter which in Latin alphabet is known as B stands for V (or W depending on translation) so it was V-1 and not B-1! Regards, Andrzej

While reading interrogation report from crewmembers of U-490 [ ] I have found something like that: "A prisoner from U-490 had served for some time as cook on the Rumanian submarine, DELFINUL. This boat was commanded by the German officer, Eckhardt and there were about ten Ger

Dear Friends, I'm looking for the KTBs and Navigationtagebuch for U 14, U 18 and U 22 for their first war patrols (conducted on Baltic in September 1939). I'm aware of the magnificent work by Roland Berr and his 'Das Kriegstagebuch der U-Bootwaffe' but I'm looking for the more precise data (pure data for the Quadrate is not enough). Any help would be greatly appreciat

Hi Mark, as far as I understand German - Fang stand for the trap. I presume that Kretschmer was afraid of the Q-Ship hence after the crew lowered the boats (which was typical play by the Q-Ship crew) he dived and finished the vessel from below the surface. Hope it helps! Andrzej

Hello Axel, you pointed out very interesting problem! As far as I know following submarines were building in Ateliers et Chantiers Augustin-Normand: La Créole / 29.VIII.1938 (laid down) / 8.VI.1940 (launched) / 68% (completed) La Bayadere / 29.VIII.1938 / - / 62% ORP I (Polish) / I.1939 / - / ?% ORP II (Polish) / I.1939 / - / ?% (though it is possible that second boat was building in
