Hello, NEBOJSA reached Alexandria on 24 April 1941 after stops at Argostoli and Suda. She was used briefly for A/S training before leaving for Port Said and Suez in October 1941 where she was used for landing exercises before returning to Alexandria et the end of the month. In June 1942 she was moved from Alexandria to Port Said to escape the Axis advance which had reached El Alamein. In Octob

Hi Gustavo, HMS TRIDENT was patrolling off Ponto Delgada when she sighted a darkened ship entering harbour, she fired two warning shots and when the ship failed to answer she fired in succession five torpedoes as she believed it to be a German blockade runner. The ship finally made a signal as "ROUTER PANAMA" but no identity of a ship named ROUTER could be found and it was only days

Hi all, Bruce is quite correct, these were the containers for human torpedoes or "maiali". The submarine AMBRA depicted in the picture was one of four submarines to be equipped to carry them (the others were GONDAR, IRIDE and SCIRE). Platon

There is an interesting article with some good photographs on U-boats in the Med from "Storia Militare" reproduced in the Betasom forum at the second part of the article to appear in September. Text is in Italian. I thought this might interest some readers despite the language barrier. Platon

Hello Islander Do you have the position where U-1 was mined? This could clear up on which minefield she was lost. It is possible that the wreck of U-50 is around as both U-boats may have sailed together. Many thanks, Platon

Actually the German tanker NORDMARK was disguised as the American PRAIRIE when located on 14.4.1941 by the seaplane from HMS ALCANTARA in the South Atlantic. At the time she was approaching a rendezvous point with the four Italian submarines which had escaped from Massawa. Only later was it realised that the PRAIRIE did not exist but by this time NORDMARK had vanished. The German tanker later si

Hello, Some pages are missing from the NARA microfilm of U-407 (Roll T1022/2940). These are pages 2-3 of patrol of 9-12.9.1943 and pages 18-19, 22-23 of patrol from 29.1.1944 to 12.3.1944. I was wondering if these pages were torn from the original volume or were accidentally missed during the microfilming of the document? Anyone had access to the original at BA/MA? Thanks, Platon

Hi Paul, The attack did not happen off Trondheim but west of the German MDA in Quadrat AN 4965 (approx. 56.51 N/3.48 E) at 2000/13 March. The submarine attacked by U-30 was HMS TRUANT which heard loud explosions at 2003 and at 2004 in 56.52 N/03.46 E. Best regards, Platon

According to the new feature "Attacks on U-boats", U-568 was attacked by an aircraft on 9.1.1943, this is probably a misprint as U-568 had been sunk in May 1942. Wrong U-boat or wrong date? Thanks, Platon
