The other individual I question is Karl Scherb. I have documentation that he was onboard U-20 from June 23, 1915 to July, but not anything for sure stating the Lusitania voyage. He later Gabe an account of the sinking, but I can't verify with what I have.

Hi Simon. Do you or anyone else happen to have any documentation regarding whether Karl Leschhorn was aboard U-20 when it sank Lusitania? I have a latter-day accounts where he claims that he was, but there are other imposters, such as the previously mentioned Lepper, who gave an account in his 90s claiming that he was aboard. Then there are the Voegele conscientious objector claims.

3. Re: U-20
Years too late, but I can confirm that Sellmer is indeed listed in the documentation of those aboard U-20 when it attacked Lusitania.
I am curious if anyone has a source or account from Sellmer that substantiates the claim that he was the first to sight Lusitania. I would be most interested in reading it, if so.
Did the correspondence you obtained mention anything about U-20?

Hello everyone. What magnification capability did the periscopes in Type U-19 U-boat, such as U-20, have? I know some later models had 1.5x and 6x.
Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the information. That confirms that he was not aboard U-20 when it sank Lusitania. I have a partial list from that voyage, but wanted to make sure. I appreciate the help.

Hello. I have a list of U-20 crewmembers that appears to be from the same source mentioned above. I was wondering if anyone has any information on a crewmember named Hermann Lepper, matrose, associated with U-20? He does not appear on the list I have, and I am wondering whether he was a later member of the crew? Any information would be appreciated.

Hello again. My coauthor and I updated the preview page for Into the Danger Zone. It now has updated preview pages, information on ordering it, and excerpts from the book. I believe that many here will find it of great interest:

9. Into the Danger Zone: The Lusitania, First Battle of the Atlantic, and Liners During the Great War
Hello. I am excited to announce that the second edition of 'Into the Danger Zone' has been published. Whether you have read the first edition of the book or not, the second edition is substantially revised and expanded. There is nearly 1/3 additional new accounts and material, and nearly 100 additional photographs and images, compared to the original version. This edition is hardcov

Hello. I was wondering whether anyone was aware of a version of Max Valentiner's U-38 book, titled "U-38, Viking Voyages of a German U-boat" which has been translated into English? I cannot read German well, particularly fraktur text characters.
I am particularly interested in whether he describes or addresses the sinking of the Ancona in his book.
Thank you in advance,

13. Photo question
Hello everyone. I recently acquired a real photo postcard of a WWI German U-boat, and was wondering if anyone might be willing to take a look, and share their opinion of the class of U-boat it was, if not the actual identity of it. Please let me know, and I would be glad to forward a scan of it via email.
Thank you for your help,
Tad

Hello. Two quick questions for everyone:
-Does anyone know or have access to a good source, online or otherwise, for U-boat logs, translated into English?
-Also, does anyone know of a service or easy way to translate old German books to English? I know there are apps to scan and translate, but it doesn't work with old German printed type it seems.
Any assistance would be apprec
