The Flying Mouse
Hi Michael.
Thanks anyway for checking out.
At the moment, given the evedence at hand, what % do we think Eveleen was sunk by UB 72?
Personally, i'm very highly convinced (especially looking at the map).
I'll keep trying to dig for the sailing time of Eveleen.

Hi Olivier.
One attack with torpedos?
Strange as the boat is credited with three kills between 6th and 12th May (four, if you agree with the notion that Eveleen was sunk by UB72).
One would assume the whole crew would know that they were in the process of attacking a ship, so for the survivors to mention only one attack is puzzling.

Soldier Of Fortune have a selection of reproduction u boat insignia in their re enactors catolouge.
I'm afraid I can't post a link direct as it's not how the site works, but if mouse over Third Reich, then insignia, then click on Naval, you'll see the selection they have on offer.

The Flying Mouse
In the course of looking for information on this subject, I came across the following web page discribing the sinking of UB 72 (unfotunatly no mention of Eveleen, or the other kills for that matter).
The article is written by the nephew of the petty officer of D4, who was awarded the DSM for this action.
I'm sure you'll find it as interesting as I did.

OH MY GOD.
Michael, I do believe you've cracked it.
Eveleen left Aye for Belfast on 6th May, and a direct route would take her straight past Corsewall point (the area the uboat.net has listed as the area Sandhurst was sunk on the same day).
Looking at the map reference points in question, I can't believe how close Eveleen is supposed to come to a point where UB72 is already known t

hmmm, checking out UB72, I see that she confirmed three kills between 6th and 9th May, so I think my theory of any survivors playing down their successes has run slightly aground lol.
Still possible that UB72 failed to positivly identify the name of that particular kill so she's still an option.

The Flying Mouse
Hi Ron.
My great grandfather was Able Seaman Arthur Joseph Suttcliffe 175777.
Other crew members i've identified (to compare notes) are...
Able Seaman Edwin Greenwood.
Leading Seaman Robert Keeble.
Second Mate James Doyle.
Fireman Andrew Elliott Adamson.
Second Engineer James Toomath.
It would be great if you could fill in the rest of the crew.
Cheers.,

The Flying Mouse
Hi Oliver.
That's very interesting.
Sounds like it could be a prime candidate to explain the strage disapearance.
I would think it was possible that the three survivors might think it wise to play down their successes after falling into enemy hands for fear of reprisals.
An if and a but too many perhaps, but still a very real possibility.
Cheers for your help.

10. Re: SS Eveleen
Hi Ray & Michael.
Thank you for your input. It's much appreciated.
It looks as though she's left port and somewhere along the way run into some mishap.Be it enemy action or otherwise.
It's a shame that no u boat has claimed her as it would make it so much easier to pinpoint her fate, but I understand that it is not always easy to clearly confirm the exact identity of a ki

11. SS Eveleen
Hi folks.
I'm hoping someone can give me a little more info, or can at least confirm the information I have concerning a ship my great grandfather was lost on.
The information I know is correct is.........
I know the ship's name was SS Eveleen.
There are three deaths listed on 6th May 1918 from that ship (my great grandfather being one of them).
What i've heard from
