I suggest Iron Coffins by Herbert A. Werner. I have just posted a forum discussion under general topics on this. Briefly it describes the true horror and cost of war at sea as well as an account of his personal life during WW11. It will dispell any notion of spin doctoring and propegander. Hope it helps

Finished the book 'Iron Coffins' A superb and detailed account of the reality of war in the Atlantic from a U-Boat perspective. How fate seems to remain on his side in order that he can tell his story. A great man. If you have not read this book I urge you to take the time out to do so.
