92. U 461 KTB
Hi
Have just been reading KTB of U 461, courtesy of (U-Boat Archive) and came across this entry "Conning tower hatch jammed closed, emerged via the officer's hatch. Grating had come loose making the opening of the conning tower hatch impossible"
My question is, as to where the officer's hatch was situated?
Thanks
BB

ULBING Not commander of 129 but WO. He seems to have badge of mermaid on hat. Any ideas as to which boat had this emblem and did Ulbing serve on the "mermaid" boat

Hi
You may be interested, that U 256 under KptLT Odo Loewe used the emblem of a Lion's head, not in Hogel's book.

102. Re: U 701
Many thanks for posting this link, very sad to read about the "looting" of the wreck.
Heavy floods in UK as also lead to "scum" looting shops!
What a world

Hi
Not Greenwich which is in middle of London on the Thames!
He might mean Gourock or Greenock in Scotland
Queen Mary sailed throughout 1943 between Gourock and New York carrying troops
George v spent most of the early part of the war (Up To D-Day) in the north atlantic and was in scapa flow which was her base, although she was in Greenock on 22/23 Dec 1943. You need to find out your Uncle

Hi
"VOR AMMERIKA" on the back of the foto simply means "off America" according to many native German speakers, Not the name of ship. The concenus is that it is
Polyphemus as I first thought.

Kindly received this information from Peter Euteneur whose father was OSTRM Emil Euteneur (283)
Quote:-
Just prior to Wolfgang Kindlers death, he described in a letter, written to Horst Bredow, the circumstances that led to the suicide committed by Oberleutnant zur See Hans-Günther Scholz. I’ve translated the pertinent part of the letter
