Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, just to let you all know, Bernd Eichinger the producer of the movie Das Boot died yesterday at age 61 just of a sudden on a heartattck in L.A. Without his "genius" to collect about 25Mill. Deutsche Mark, Petersen would not have been able to shoot the movie. And if I remember correctly it was Eichinger who on end insisted the movie DAS BOOT was to be real

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, just published by DER SPIEGEL about the course Germany took, before the first U-Boot became operational prior WWI. It is title “sputter – start” refers to problems created by the navy itself before Tirpitz then finally gave his okay to construct a “Tauchboot” worth his name. Also you find an article on U-977 about the “bull” of H`s flight and the

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, A turkey never voted for an early Christmas. Irish Proverb Dear Lord, I've been asked, nay commanded, to thank Thee for the Christmas turkey before us... a turkey which was no doubt a lively, intelligent bird... a social being... capable of actual affection... nuzzling its young with almost human- like compassion. Anyway, it's dead and we'

Hello Mr. Rieger, I´ll take it, without trying to be smart .., that your family roots are from Thuringen and Sachsen Anhalt. Because Thuringen and Sachsen-Anhalt are two seperate states plus the other 14 comprising the Federal Repuplik of Germany.

Hello Everybody, actually Ken already said it all. It should be pointed out though that everybody who joined the Wehrmacht in those days by law of the German Armed Forces had to either leave any political party or put his membership on hold for the time being because the Wehrmacht defined itself as strict political neutral.

"This would make adhearing to or not adhearing to treaties much more difficult as any side could claim special circumstances (commander intent for one) to support their claim." Definetly correct, but that`s why there is the International Court in Den Haag which rules on disputes on international treaties.

Is a warship immune from attack when it is engaged in an at-sea rescue operation? Indeed that is my point. Let's have a look at the law: Manual of the Laws of Naval War. Oxford, 9 August 1913, would be a reference SECTION II ON THE ARMED FORCE OF BELLIGERENT STATES Art. 2. War-ships. Constituting part of the armed force of a belligerent State and, therefore, subject as su

"I picked up 193 men. 4, 53" From a legal point of view the subsumption has to consider the time of action. At the time of action the captain had his boat on a rescue and not on acombat mission. The bomber-pilot saw it the same way. The skipper intently figured his boat with said people on board was not fit to be used for military purposes. That the boat itself might be still in sha

Helo All, with due respect I dissent: "are not being used at the same time for military purposes" In time of his rescue mission u 156 was not able to be used for military purposes and the skipper was well aware of this fact and so was the bomber other wise he would not have ask his commando if he should attack after all.

Dear Ladies and Gentleman, just found this on the internet: [209.85.129.132] It is about the impact of film-music in Das Boot, Hunt for Red October, K-19 The widow-maker, Cirmson Tide. From my point of view very well written with some facinating thoughts as to why, e.g. Doldinger, composed his sound-track according to theses requirements/specifics given to him by Petersen. Probably
